All-Electric Updates
The fully electric Volvo C40 Recharge and XC40 Recharge offer new updates for the 2024 model year to provide more range and powertrain options. Two new powertrains available for both models will let you travel further before needing to recharge the batteries. For the first time in 25 years, Volvo Cars USA is offering a rear-wheel drive product, delivering an improved range while maintaining the safety and refined driving dynamics the brand is known for.
Volvo cars built the second generation of the permanent magnet electric motor equipped to the rear axles of new C40 Recharge and XC40 Recharge models in-house for more control over the quality and technology of these motors.
The rear-wheel drive configurations evenly distribute the weight of the battery and motors for more efficiency and improved driving dynamics. The new Single Motor Extended Range C40 Recharge and XC40 Recharge include a 248-horsepower permanent magnet e-motor on the rear axle and an 82kWh battery pack. The combination of a more energy-dense battery and efficient motor makes it possible for these models to achieve up to 297 and 293 miles of EPA-estimated range.
You can also count on faster charging with a top rate of 200 kW DC, which can charge these models from 10-80 percent in about 28 minutes.
The Twin Motor all-wheel drive variants also benefit from updates with Volvo Cars' in-house 255-horsepower electric motor on the rear axle and a new 147-horsepower asynchronous electric motor on the front axle. The XC40 Recharge Twin Motor AWD improves its driving range to an estimated 254 miles, while the C40 Recharge Twin Motor now provides up to 257 miles of EPA-estimated range.
You can also anticipate exterior updates for the C40 Recharge and XC40 Recharge, including new 19-inch alloy wheels that reduce drag, paint options, and available exterior themes.

While the new 2024 C40 Recharge and XC40 Recharge are the only two models currently confirmed for 2024, we can also expect the 2023 Volvo lineup to return for another year.
